1. Agreements vs. Expectations
We agree to create our relationships in the Dojo around agreements. We notice when we have unspoken expectations and seek to create agreements around them whenever possible.
2. Response-ability
For any request or challenge we are given in the Dojo, we understand that we can respond with a “YES,” a “No,” or “I’d like to Renegotiate.” The same goes for Toku and Matt and every other member of the Dojo. If you want something, please make a powerful request and remain open to receiving any of these responses.
3. Hide Nothing, Hold Nothing Back
The world asks us to hide ourselves, in the Dojo we reveal what is unseen. We tell on ourselves, we are vulnerable, and we admit when there is something unseen whether we know what it is or not. We will also own our victories and brag with reckless abandon.
4. Confidentiality
Everything we discuss is in confidence. Share your experiences and insights if you like. Even better, wait for people to notice the changes in you and the results you created! We are welcome to share our experiences about our individual coaching clients in the Dojo, and if we do so, we do so with client names omitted, and we all agree to keep those confidential within the Dojo.
AI: You may only use AI notetaking or recording with the consent of other members involved. We request that you remove the actual recordings from online servers when you do this and only retain the notes on your personal computer, making sure to remove any identifiable information about other speakers. Our recordings will be saved on Descript servers for you to access easily.
There are three exceptions we honor:
- Discussion of our work as coaches with our own 1-1 coaches and/or therapists, but with names omitted.
- Discussion with our spiritual teachers again with names omitted.
- Discussion with a mental health professional if we feel someone is a threat to themselves or others, but only after advising the client/fellow coach of this intention.
5. Playing Full Out
We play full out and practice wholeheartedly honoring how this may look different for different members of our community. We agree to show up to calls or catch up on what we miss; we agree to check in on WhatsApp or be clear about why we can’t. We agree to support our clan using our brilliance while also honoring our boundaries.
6. Serving vs. Pleasing
We seek to serve others not to please them. This does not mean we are cruel or critical, it means we share our honest experience and feedback with skill and compassion owning that our experience is not the absolute truth.
7. Yes to Coaching
We create space for high flame feedback with compassion and deep conversations on our style and philosophy of coaching. We are always a Yes to coaching unless we say otherwise. If we are full we let others know. If someone says they are full, or we sense they are, we slow down, ask permission, or step into loving holding.
8. Honoring Time
We ask that you be at each call at least five mins in advance so you are ready to begin. If you know you will be late or absent, please let a Dojo leader or another member know.
9. Integrity
In the Dojo, we do not say “sorry”. Instead, we commit to keep our word and clean up when we don’t.
(For example: “I acknowledge I was not on time for today’s call. I re-commit to being early or on time for future calls.”)
10. The Unknown
We have a map and a backpack of supplies, but we do not know what we will face on our journey. We choose to celebrate experiments, failures, bold proposals, big fat NO’s and all acts of courage we encounter, no matter what. We agree to speak out loud when we feel fear and agree to do our best to take action anyway.
Sensei Agreements to You
1. We Lead as a Team
The Dojo Support Team leads you as a team. In order to lead effectively, we will share information with each other. We will not share private information with anyone outside of the Dojo, but we will share information between us in order to make sure we can serve you as powerfully as possible.
2. We Lead as Peers
While we are the leaders of the Dojo, we are not your teachers, gurus, zen masters, or overlords. While we can each offer our experience, we believe that none of us has greater access to wisdom. And so we invite you as well as ourselves to be open to impact no matter whose voice is speaking.
3. Success & Results
These are two promises WE WILL NOT make to you. Success and Results. These are completely up to you. We believe in you no matter what sales you make or clients you close. By remaining unattached to your success, we allow you to create these much faster than you could with the weight of our responsibility placed upon you.
4. You Are Powerful
We promise to see you and hold you as the powerful beings we know you are – NO. MATTER. WHAT. You would not be in the Dojo if we did not see and feel deeply inspired by the power you so clearly possess.
